Playing Card on Diwali:The tradition of playing cards is not the original tradition. It’s the tradition of the gamble on this festival. It has a mythological story that on this day Goddess Parvati played Dice with her husband, Lord Shiva. On the day she announced that whosoever would play gamble on this day will get prosperity and wealth the while ensuing year. From that day people believe that playing any sort of gambling is auspicious on this day. With the time the ways of playing gamble have also changed remarkably. Now cards have taken the place of dice. People play the card with their family members to auspicate. They also invite their friends and relatives for playing cards. As money is considered the blessing of Goddess Laksmi, people want to play it with great enthusiasm. The winner considers himself lucky not only for getting money but for getting blessings of Goddess Lakshmi, and the loser doesn’t want to wait for the next year and intends to win at least once. So people think that if they play gamble on this day, Goddess Lakshmi will be pleased with them and the whole next year will prove to be lucky and benefit from them. Gambling with this view is not wrong but some people disgrace the festival because of their addiction to gambling, and they try to persuade others and legitimating this by referring the story of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Shiva. People are so addicted that they go to a casino for playing gamble. Some win, some loose but the casino owners always win, and they earn the lot on the day. For them, Diwali is a day on which they definitely become rich provided the customers come to their clubs. It is also a myth somebody doesn’t play gamble or cards on this day then he/she will bear as a donkey in the next birth, but I think this is spread by the intention of legitimating once’ addiction of gambling on this festival.
