traditional diwali

“traditional diwali”India’s base is spirituality. Religion has been defined in reference with spirituality. Where religion explains about the system of outside activities, spirituality analysis the inner mental support. Reason being every tradition – ritual prevailing in the life has been described in born meaning religions as well spiritual.

Since religion has been explained in such concepts by which one can touch the heights in this world and the second world also, then it becomes very clear that religious and spiritual growth is closely related to the rituals and tradition. (diwali rituals and pooja) Here in this text, we will discuss the traditional diwali of Diwali.

Diwali has its so many names like – Dipawali, Deepmalika, Diwali, etc. it is said that Sh. Ram Chander along with his brother Laxman and wife Sita came back to Ayodhya – their capital after completing 14 years jungle – niwas. This jungle Niwas was the order of the step mother, Kaikayee. Everyone knows the whole story. As we all are listening to this story since our very childhood. This same is need not to be reproduced here when Rama returned – the residents of Ayodhya extraordinarily welcomed them. They cleaned all the city. Every house, every shop was white washed and repaired. Roads were decorated with flowers. Lightening arrangement was made everywhere. As electricity was not in trend during those days, thus northern lamps were lightened and put in a raw so that continually of light may be maintained. Next year on the same day same celebrations were made to remember the sweet memories of the previous year. Since then it is being celebrated in the same manner, and it became a tradition for the coming generations, with the passing of time and it continuing. Every year, generation after generations are celebrating the Diwali. So many small and big festivals came during the whole year. But Diwali is the biggest festival celebrated all over India with great pomp and show. Traditionally Diwali is celebrated on the Kartik Amavasya. As we have 12 months in the English Calendar starting from Jan. to Dec. Similarly, 12 months are there in Hindi Year which is call Vikrami Samrat Year in Vikrami Samvat starts from the month of Chaitra and ends on Falgun. Chaitra month is the corresponding month of April, and thus Kartik falls during the end of October and starting of Nov. every year.

traditional diwali Thus Diwali is celebrated on Kartik Amavasya. Amavasya word is used for the moon-less night. Since the moon revolves around the earth, thus one day in the months remains to be the full-moon night and after its 15 days comes the moon-less night. Full moon night is called as Purnima and moonless night is called as Amavasya. Our great festival of Diwali is celebrated on the moonless night of Kartik month means October was ending or in the first week of November. And the dark moonless night is lightened with the many sparkling candles and earthen lamps.
